Rhode Island may be small but #42 is still 26.2
After last week’s marathon in Delaware and having to drive all the way up there from Virginia Beach by myself, (exhausting…especially when you finish the race and immediately jump in the car….yeah, I know!) this time I was able to coerce my wife to join me on the drive. She wasn't going to run but she decided to keep me company during my time away. These events have been our get-a-aways where we can see the site and enjoy time together. Busy businesses keep us too occupied at

Delaware Marathon #41
Delaware Marathon #41 For this marathon I was going it alone. My wife and number one fan was going to stay home and work. It would be my 41st marathon and my 5th one of the year. So far I have been packing them in pretty tight since my first one was mid-month March with the One City in Newport News, Virginia.
I had decided to drive up to Delaware by myself to avoid too much expenses. I found a relatively inexpensive hotel and ended up driving from our Richmond office that F

Charlotte’s (HILLS) marathon #39
Charlottes (HILLS) marathon #39
There is a time during the running of any marathon that you wonder “What in the world was I thinking for signing up for this race!”
This one certainly had a couple of those moments for me. It was nice smaller race that included not only marathon runners but a large group of half marathoners as well as 8K. We were all mixed together at the starting line so it was a pretty good group of people. However there were only 192 marathon finishers.

One City…One more time!
I finished my last marathon in Philadelphia just before Thanksgiving. Turning in yet another poor performance in 2018. This made me realize I needed to go back and focus on my strength training and get prepared before I tried another marathon. I ran a fair amount last year but really neglected the strength training at the gym. The last month, December, of 2018 I really didn't ramp up my training like I needed or wanted. However, I did set in plan goals that I wanted to accomp

#32 Not Good in Jersey
I almost not like writing about this marathon, okay, I really don't like writing about this marathon. It's because it was my worst race time ever. So there are a lot of reasons why it was my worst marathon. However, I don't like making excuses. I started off the year with an amazing set of goals that would have allowed me to accomplish nearly 20 marathons in 2018. Unfortunately, that was not what was in the cards. I started off the year pretty strong I was preparing for my fi

My 2nd Marathon - Shamrock 2015
As I begin to prepare for yet another marathon I am going back and reposting my old blog posts from my original blog, ET's This I Believe. Of course now this one is all about running! I probably should rewrite them all but that is a lot of work....and I am lazy. Read through and relive my story, Hope you enjoy! http://etsthisibelieve.blogspot.com/2014/03/sermon-run-forrest-run.html As always, I share my story as a diabetic and why I run. That is important to me. Continue to s

My first 50 mile attempt
This is a post referencing back to my ET This I Believe Blog before I started the one you are on now. I certainly could copy it all over again and repost it but I thought that maybe linking the old one would suffice.....after all. What is in the PAST is in the PAST! Enjoy! 50 mile challenge #diabetes #EugeneThompson #HaveAFunRun #diabeticrunner #running #diabeticawareness #RunEugeneRun #50miles

#34 Marathon and the Crabs
I had seen the crazy crab shaped medal on the registration page and I had to have it! The whole shell opened up too to reveal the skyline of the city of Baltimore. It sounds like a fun race…..and I needed to knock out the state of MARYLAND. We lived so close but I hadn’t ran a marathon here yet.
So I set out to tackle this one. I had felt confident at the Wineglass but didn’t do my best performance. I was still struggling to achieve a strong finish again this year. My weigh

#35 Richmond Anthem
Happy birthday to me! My schedule has been crazy and I’ve been running all over…..unfortunately not running on my feet but rather work related. I did 1500 miles the previous weekend. Well here I am. In Richmond doing this race again. Last year I did a strong finish……last year I was healthier, weighed less, trained more. Different story this year.
November 10, my 53rd birthday and I’m celebrating my 35th marathon. What a way to enjoy the day. It was a bit cold this morning. N

Wineglass for the 3rd time….or the 33rd time?
I have been struggling with my running this year for all sorts of reasons so I needed a familiar race to get me back on track. Wineglass in Corning NY is one of my favorite community marathons. I did it my first year of running races and then again in 2015. The local people always do a great job of cheering and supporting the runners. This time it’ll be my 33rd marathon.
So…..my wife and I took off for a little vacation….or RUNcation as most call it. We decided to make sure
